The Project

To talk about the future is useful only if it leads to action now. And what can we do now, while we are still in a position of 'never having had it so good?' - E.F. Schumaker

Assynt Renewables Ltd is a short-term Climate Challenge Fund initiative to promote local understanding of the issues of climate change by promoting energy awareness and efficiency options in the area.

Assynt Renewables also promotes decentralised, small scale, renewable initiatives, such as biomass boilers (wood chips, pellets) small scale wind, solar or water power schemes for heating or electricity production. The main focus for this is community buildings and individual householders. In addition, the project will be examining ways in which Assynt can shield itself from some future impacts of climate change.

Please browse the site for further information, copies of information leaflets, information provided to local groups about renewable options, energy news.

We have now completed the energy audit for Assynt, a key part of our project proposition..

Case Study – Off-grid turbine – Clachtoll

The Assynt Renewables web site has seen a lot of interest in the off-grid case study written up some time ago, available here.  At the time, one other off-grid system was not written up as, unlike Gwen’s it has not been professionally built, and anyway it actually belongs to the Assynt Renewables project officer, who didn’t think his system merited close interest.  However, as there is interest in this, here are the details.  Consider this a private post, not necessarily the views of Assynt Renewables.
